Travel Maps
Travel maps are the bane of many a driver’s existence. A travel map – when unfolded – is cumbersome, sometimes hard to read, easy to rip, and almost impossible to properly refold. Yet when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere and only have a lone road or highway marker in front you, travel maps are a lifesaver! If you do not like asking for direction, a travel map is the kind of equipment you do not want to leave home without. Free travel maps can oftentimes be picked up at the local office of your automobile club, your car rental agency, and even your travel agent. Some travel maps will not only contain roads and off ramps, but also inform you about properly mapped travel destinations that you might find interesting. If, for example you will be traveling to Gozo (Malta), Guatemala, Sofia (Bulgaria), Vienna (Austria), Katmandu (Nepal) or even Beijing (China), a map will help your find a hotel, car rental agency, weather information, picturesque travel destinations, and even little cultural idiosyncrasies you might nor have known about before.
Travel maps – for a while – got a little bit of a bad reputation because they were affiliate driven and would only contain the information about hotels and other amenities of companies that had purchased advertising space with the printers of the travel maps. Yet with the advent of the Internet, many printers of such information have worked hard to remain competitive, and instead of simply being a bit of advertising, they now carry vital details, such as maps with stated travel distances, a world map travel guide, in-folded maps of holiday destinations, and even for the world traveler there is a travel map – although this one is not quite as detailed as you would want in order to get around. So the next time someone offers you a travel map – usually for free – do not simply wave it off; instead go ahead and take and see what information you will be able to glean from it. The odds are very good that you will be in for a pleasant surprise!
